2020 Pinot Noir Greengate Ranch

Greengate Ranch lies towards the southern end of the Edna Valley, which we refer to as the "sweet spot" of the valley.  Here, the soils become more interesting, and our block most certainly lies on some of the most unique soils we've ever seen in this area. Under a thin layer of dark clay lies a soft, chalky, calcareous subsoil that is extremely rocky. The entire Edna Valley is very cool due to its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the NW/SE orientation of the valley, which is the exact direction of the prevailing winds, yet the southern end is just a few degrees warmer. The first ever vintage of this wine, we crafted the wine from a few rows of clone 2A growing on a north facing hillside in what we consider the very best, yet tiny section of the entire vineyard. Always featuring a darker profile, it has loads of wild berry fruits, black rose petal, and subtle spice aromatics, along with a hint of toasty French oak. It's a lively wine, dark but not dense, and lends a lot of generosity to the palate, finishing with a burst of juicy acidity.
