Mauka, meaning "towards the mountains" in Hawaiian language (my mother's heritage), is a cuvee that was a long time coming. We had always struggled to be impressed with Bordeaux varieties in Paso Robles, but when we became involved with a new vineyard in the Willow Creek District planted to Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, we knew the time had come to bring Mauka to life. Mauka is a wine that is both substantial in structure yet elegant in character. A dense nose of blackberry, woodsmoke, and creme de cassis is met with dark, penetrating palate of mocha-laced blue and black fruits, toasted marshmallow, and cedar notes.
