51% Syrah, 49% Petite Sirah
95pts Jeb Dunnuck
Citizen was born out of the desire to showcase both how complimentary and also how contrasting Petite Sirah and Syrah can be when blended together. Yes, the two varietals are genetically related (Petite Sirah is a cross of Syrah x Peloursin) and share some similar characteristics, yet they bring very different flavor profiles to a wine. Petite Sirah brings black pepper, rich dark fruit and a more forward, open structure, while Syrah brings mid palate, savory nuance, and lots of length. Citizen is usually one of our most savory wines, showcasing cracked pepper, olive tapenade, toasted marshmallow, bay leaf, blue and black fruits, and a massive structure.
